Network setup for Advanced Displays

VerseCAST provides multiple displays that you can use as the main presentation output, a foyer screen, stream subtitles, or a stage display at your church. These displays work by hosting a web page on the device running VerseCAST.

You can find the URL to open in Menu / Displays.

Since the URL or IP address of your device can change due to how network protocols work, you need to make the address permanent.

Follow these simple steps to set everything up.

Preparation

I the following steps you will set a static IP address for the device running VerseCAST. This is necessary so your display URL won't change every time you reconnect to your WiFi.

It is a limitation of internet protocols and hardware.

  • On your phone / tablet running VerseCAST - go to "Settings" > "WiFi" and click the (i) icon next to the WiFi you are connecting to.

    iOS:

    • Disable "Private Wi-Fi Address"

    • Write down the information in "Wi-Fi Address" field

    • Write down the information in “IP Address” field

    Android:

    • Tap "Privacy" > And set to "Use device MAC address"

    • Write down information in "MAC address" field

    • Write down information in “IPv4 address” field

  • This part is for your local WiFi /network administrator not the internet provider - It is not very difficult to do, but if you have local network administrator - he is the one to be making this changes!

When connected to your WiFi router open a web browser and go to your WiFi router configuration page.

The address of this page can be found on the bottom sticker of your WiFi router and will be similar or equal to http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

Login and Password can usually also be found on the bottom sticker of your WiFi router.

  • To continue, you may need to enable Advanced Configuration in your Wi-Fi router settings.

This applies to routers from TP-Link, Reolink, and other brands.

If you already can see the advanced settings, you can skip this step.

  • In your WiFi router configuration page look for:

    • Fixed IP Address

    • Static IP

    • Address reservation

The specific name can vary based on the manufacturer of your WiFi router.

  • In the DHCP section of your WiFi router click Add/New/+ or similar and when prompted provide:

    • the "MAC address" you wrote down in the previous steps

    • IP address you wrote down in previous steps

Make sure that the rule is enabled

  • In order for the changes to take effect you need to restart your WiFi router.

Click restart WiFi when prompted and wait for your phone to reconnect to the WiFi. You need to wait for the changes to take effect.

Note:

  • MAC address - It is a unique name that the WiFi router uses to identify the connected device (example: A1-B2-C3-D4-E5-F6 or A1:B2:C3:D4:E5:F6)

  • IP address - is an URL address just like www.google.com that is assigned to the devices by your router on the local network (example: 192.168.0.111)

OPEN DISPLAY IN YOUR BROWSER

In VerseCAST app - tap on Menu / Displays to copy the proper URL to put in to your display web browser.
